Bucky Waters is a former basketball player and coach who currently resides at Croasdaile Village. He is an incredibly genuine and caring man and his vibrant personality captivates those around him. Bucky is adored by all those who are blessed with the opportunity to know him. He takes his passions beyond his Croasdaile home and is dedicated to giving back to the community through the Durham Rescue Mission. The goal of the mission is to help people who have gone through a rough patch in their lives get back on track. The mission provides shelter, food, and job training for anyone who may need help. Bucky has nothing but positive things to say about the mission and was kind enough to show me around and give me a synopsis of what they do. In this project, I outline the basic functions of the mission along with Bucky's role in both the Croasdaile, and Durham community.
It has been an honor to get to know Bucky and I would not have changed it for the world. I can honestly say that, as a freshman a long way from my Seattle home at Duke University, he made Durham feel like my new home. I so grateful to him and his wife for welcoming me in and treating me as one of their own throughout this process. I truly hope that my project conveys the fact that Bucky Waters is one of the most compassionate and entertaining people to be around.
